Active Preamp allows very low action for easy playability. With no experience playing an upright, I was able to start gigging after only 3 weeks. Replaced strings with D'Addario Hybids and this is a dream to play. Great upright growl, and ballsy low end. Not a thumpy sound. This bass cuts through. Without an overhanging fret board, the bass is very durable, and neck problems are not a worry. Looks very much like a Carruthers. Good fit and finish, and very affordable. Great for an electric bassist who wants to add a upright to his arsenal. If you want a traditional upright sound, this may not be the bass for you. If you want the characteristic "mwah" and an upright feel with a bigger sound requiring less effort and handstrain, this is a great choice.
